sustainability, low-impact living, environmental stewardship

Happy Earth Month 2023!

This Saturday is Earth Day, and I wish you all the best this Earth Day as we think about our relationship with our Planet A and commit to do better.

There is no Planet B.

In the past, I haven’t given much thought to Earth Day. It falls on April 22, the day before my Mom’s birthday, and three days before my anniversary, so I usually have a lot going on—especially if it falls on a weekend! But with my renewed conviction about environmental stewardship, I plan to do something this year to celebrate Earth Day! In the spirit of sharing, I am throwing out some ideas of what you might do also to remember this beautiful world we live in.

What We Can Do

  • Start a garden
  • Read a chapter from The Climate Book
  • Watch an environmental documentary
  • Join an environmental group
  • Write a letter to your representatives, state and federal, to demand action on an environmental issue
  • Adopt and clean an area of trash
  • Re-commit to zero waste
  • Take a walk along a trail
  • Visit the Great Salt Lake, if you’re in the area
  • Explore alternatives to plastic in your daily life
  • Ride a bike instead of driving a vehicle if the trip is short
  • Check out other great suggestions on the Earth Hero app

What I Plan to Do

  • Start some seeds and prep my garden area (With all the snow, I’m behind a month)
  • Plant flowers
  • Go on a bike ride with my youngest daughter
  • Donate to an environmental organization (e.g., Wren)

What will you commit to do this Earth Day 2023?
